Though the Willamette Valley in Oregon is most famous for its Burgundian grape varieties (Pinot Noir and Chardonnay)- Scott Frank of Bow & Arrow feels more inspired by the ‘humble’ wines of the Loire Valley. He likes his wines to be approachable enjoyable meant to share with friends and this one perfectly fits the bill. The ‘Melon’ is 100% Melon de Bourgogne which despite the name is actually the variety used in Muscadet. Very few places outside of Muscadet grow this ‘humble’ grape so we were pleasantly surprised to find this example from OR; crisp minerally and just a touch salty. The perfect pairing for oysters but just a lovely with salads and other lighter dishes.
