2017 was a Mediterranean year in Rioja- marked by a historic frost on the 27th of April and the warm summer which resulted in a very early harvest of a small excellent quality crop. This was a vintage that favored the microclimate of the Remelluri Blanco vineyards high in the Cantabrian mountains producing a fully-ripe wine with excellent balance and potential to develop for years. – – This is one of the most famous best made white wines in all of Spain. Sommeliers on both sides of the Atlantic clamor for their annual allocations. Telmo Rodriguez the highly talented well-traveled winemaker whose family owns Remelluri takes a lot of pride in this foudre-fermented and aged blend of Garnacha Blanca Viura Roussanne Marsanne and Viognier from his beautiful organically farmed estate vineyard in Labastida. Delicious now for its bright intense yellow fruit and deft use of oak this wine is a proven ager; 10-12 years from the vintage no problem – if you can lay off these bottles for that long that is!
