Located in the mountains of Croatia’s Istrian Peninsula, just 20 min from Adriatic Coast, is Roxanich, founded by Mladen Rožanić in early 2000’s now working with his 6 daughters. The soil here is iron-rich red clay over limestone and they are focused on using all native varieties and low-intervention winemaking. The ‘Montana’ is 1005 Malvasia d’Istria rested on the skins for 1-2 days giving it just a bit of texture but not nearly enough to verge into ‘orange’ wine territory. Fresh, lightly aromatic, super crisp on the finish. This is a great pairing for pan-roasted fish with lemon and capers, or anything fresh, citrusy, and salty!
