Pianogrillo is situated in Southern Sicily, neighbors to the now famous Ariana Occhipiniti estate. The vines here sit on the tallest hill in the area at 3,000ft elevation, once utilized as a lookout for pirates and invaders. The soil here is intensely sandy and granitic giving the wines a great mineral character. This ‘Cerasolo’ is much darker and more concetrated that a classic Cerasuolo from the mainland, here with 50/50 Nero d’Avolo/Frappato the wine shows dark black cherry, blackberry, dusty tannins, and a stony, mineral quality.
