Peter Lauer has officially reached ‘cult-status’ as one of the greatest producers of Saar (a sub-region of the Mosel). Unusual for the area, he is farming organically and uses native yeasts for fermentation giving his wines unique character and texture. What makes this are so special for Riesling is the incredible tension of energy and elegance. ‘Barrel X’ is a slightly off-dry (feinherb) Riesling; the perfect calling card for this incredible producer utilizing several of his own vineyards and some fruit purchased from friends in the area. We love a barely off-dry, high acid wine for Thanksgiving to match the variety of sweet root vegetables, and transition seamlessly to an array of desserts!
