Mallea is a small side project collaboration between winemakers Erik Mallea and Justin Willett who were similarly inspired by Rhone varieties in Central Calilfornia. With each year getting warmer and drier, more and more winemakers are working with heartier grapes from warmer climates. This rosé comes from two tiny, organic vineyards Rolling Vines Vineyard and Couteaux de Clair Vineyard in Santa Ynez Valley. Light, delicate and fresh from early picked Grenache Gris and Grenache Noir, the wine spends a few months in neutral barrels that don’t impart flavor but a gentle softness. Easy to love poolside, this would also be a great pairing for summer corn salads and salmon dishes.
