You would be forgiven for thinking that Cabernet Sauvignon from California had been (done to death)- and yet Natalie and Ryan manage to coax something entirely new out of this variety with fruit from the Massa Vineyard in Carmel Valley. These vines were planted in 1968 on their own rootstock a rarity and has been farmed organically since its inception and currently dry-farmed. The result is a wholly unique expression of this ubiquitous grape. The first note that came to mind was something decidedly tropical Juicy Fruit even but not at all “jammy” or “confected”. There is no new oak here to influence the flavor so this is purely what great farming and great care can bring you. Notes of juicy black cherry and guava blackberry and cigar box. Plush mouth-coating tannins matched by fresh vibrant acidity. –
