The Cathiard family- of the famous Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte in Bordeaux took over this prime site on the border between the Rutherford and St. Helena AVAs in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains. Because their Bordeaux estate in Graves has been farmed organically the Cathiard’s immediately went about converting this Napa site to organics which they eventually hope to further transition to biodynamics. For the ‘Hora’ named after the Greek goddess of the seasons they blend 60% Cabernet Sauvignon 30% Merlot and 10% Malbec. This blend ages in 40% new French oak before bottling at under 14% ABV. The Bordeaux influence is clear but the ripe sunny fruit with a kiss of vanilla on the nose make this decidedly Napa.
