‘Canaille’ is a collaboration between the saught-after winemakers/vignerons of Scar of the Sea- and the head of Zachys auction house Charles Antin. Feeling that he was losing touch with his roots in the wine community Charles reached out to Mikey & Gina Giugni to create this tiny production of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from two organic vineyards in Santa Maria Valley; Rancho Ontiveros and Rancho Vinedo. The wine ferments with 40% whole clusters giving the wine a nice herbaceousness and lift then aged for 10 months in neutral French oak. This is a nicely balanced not at all overripe expression of Pinot Noir with that elusive earthy rosemary note on the nose and crunchy red fruits on the palate. Only 96 cases made!
