Several generations of Cantalapiedras have worked this land in Rueda- but until recently they sold off their fruit to larger producers. In 1949 they started to make their own wines and have continued to do so with organic farming and a gentle touch in the cellar. The ‘Arenisca‘ from a single vineyard is a blend of 95-98% Tinto de Toro (Tempranillo) and 3% white grapes (Verdejo Moscatel Malvaisa Palomino). The wine spends one year in used French oak before bottling unfined/unfiltered with very little sulfur added. Slight reduction on opening just needs a little air. Juicy blackberry black plum plush tannins. Not the bombastic Tinto de Toro of their neighbors; full-bodied without being weighty.
