Sicily is famous for their volcanic soils due to Mount Etna- but further south at the same latitude as Tunisia is a beautiful coast of limestone giving the wines an altogether different quality. Since its inception it has been farmed free of any synthetic chemicals and the wines are made in a very hands-off approach. The ‘Calaiuri’ is made from some of their younger vines. 75% Frappato and 25% Nero d’Avola fermented naturally followed by 6 months in stainless steel tanks to preserve its fresh red cherry quality. A great example of bright mineral-driven Sicilian reds. Try this wine a little bit chilled and serve with sausage and peppers swordfish or even a fresh salad with sun-dried tomatoes!
