The Domaine d’Ourea is situated in Vacqueyras just east of Chateauneuf-du-Pape- with all the quality and half the price. This estate is now farmed biodynamically and in the cellar nothing is added to the wines except a small dose of sulfur to keep it stable. The Gigondas (the adjacent appellation) comes from a special plot at ~1500ft elevation called ‘Grand Montmirail’ and is 70% Grenache 20% Syrah 10% Cinsault. Darker and earthier than the Vacqueyras with notes of freshly turned soil garrigue and black cherry.
