Domaine Rollin began like many estates in Burgundy; a family of grape-growers who would otherwise sell of their fruit to a negociant, decided to instead make and bottle their own wine and developed a small and growing following of private clients. Now the domaine consists of 12 hectares run by the 4th generation of the Rollin family. The farming here is not certified organic, but the treatments in the vineyard are kept to an absolute minimum, meant only to avoid a true disaster. The rouge is blended from two old-vines parcels: one in the lieu-dit of Les Pins in the northern part of the village, and the other in Les Noirets on the southern side, both of which face eastward. Compared to their better-known brethren in Savigny-les-Beaune, the red wines of Pernand-Vergelesses tend to be more firmly mineral, more savory, and more finely wrought.
