This is the ‘second wine’ of the famous Ducru-Beaucaillou and the fruit comes entirely from the vineyard of Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou where the estate gets its name- as the soil is covered in ‘beautiful pebbles’. This vineyard sits just to west of the Saint-Julien appellation and to the east of the Gironde River. The blend is ~60% Cabernet Sauvignon ~35% Merlot with a touch of Petit Verdot. This was an excellent vintage for Ducru-Beaucaillou and it is already showing very well with super silky integrated tannins ripe black cherry fruit and delicate spice on the finish. It will certainly continue to age gracefully for another decade but there’s plenty to enjoy now.
